Amiibo Mod (Repaint) - Gravity Suit Samus

I participated in a Secret Santa this year and had a big Metroid fan and collector as my recipient.  Metroid memorabilia is hard enough to come by as it is, and chances are he would already have the then-new Samus amiibo, so what do you get the Metroid collector who has it all?  I kept thinking back to my memories of Super Metroid and how cool the Gravity Suit looked, so I decided to focus on that and did the previously posted Super Metroid sprite needlepoint and this custom amiibo repaint to reflect Samus' Gravity Suit variant in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS.  

I was debating whether or not I should upload this one since it's just a custom repaint, but I thought it came out looking pretty nice.  Also, as a pretty hardcore toy collector, it was tough for me to get over the mental block of altering a mint condition figure.  But since the figure (at least at the time) was still new and easy to find, I didn't feel especially guilty about it and actually had a lot of fun doing it.  The hardest part was getting the right color purple.  I went with a mix of three paints, two metallic and one glossy.  While I like the glossy look, I do wish the metallic flecks stood out just a little more.  Also, just for fun, I painted the glowing parts of her armor with glow-in-the-dark paint (which is really hard to photograph, but I tried to show it in the lower right image).  I mean, come on, who doesn't love stuff that glows in the dark?  

Thanks to the success of this little custom amiibo mod, I decided to try something a little more challenging next.  More on that one coming soon...
